Abstract
With the recent advances in insruments and techniques, laparoscopic procedures have extended to neonates with various congenital anomalies. Authors reports a 8-days old boy with sliding esophageal hiatal hernia, treated successfully by the laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication. The technique and its potential role in the treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease are described. One 5 mm-30o camera port and four 5-mm working ports were used for access to the peritoneal cavity. Two intracorporeal stitches were applied for hiatoplasty and additional three sutures were done to wrap the gastric fundus 360 degrees around. Postoperative course was uneventful. Authors concluded that Nissen fundoplication with sliding esophageal hiatal hernia can be performed safely and effectively with the laparoscope even for neonate or early infants.
